William HAY - Scarcliffe, Derbyshire.
« on: Wednesday 07 August 19 16:47 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone.......

This is a real longshot but I am looking for a marriage of William HAY and Martha, probably around Scarcliffe as that is where they resided after their marriage.

They had four childer.

Mary 1748
William 1751
Elizabeth 1756 who married George BROUGH in Scarcliffe, 30 Sept 1777.
Martha 1759

Any info to reveal who Martha was would be greatly appreciated but I accept that very little info is probably available. I think Martha passed on 25 Jan 1782 at Pleasley, Notts/Derbys.

Kind regards to you all.

Mark.

Thanks ruth52.

I wondered if that was a little early but it's a definite possibility. There is another for 1722 in Barlow.

There is a marriage by Licence in Mansfield Nottingham betwee a William Hayes and a Martha Billington which took place at SS Peter and Paul, Mansfield 16 January 1746

There is the ikage of a typewritten transcripy of the Licence which reads

William Hayes of Lowdham, servingman aged 22 bachelor and Martha Billington of Pleasley, Derbyshire aged 22 yrs 6 months, spinster

Checking on Genuki Mansfield is about 5 miles from Scarcliffe, Pleasley about 3 miles. Lowdham is further away, about 17 miles.

That's a cracking find, emeltom.

I will try and find a connection as Martha's maiden name is a little unusual.

Thank you.

Okay. I have an entry for the same names, in Mansfield, but the date is 16 Jan 1645.

No problem. There are Bollington's in Pleasley so I might be able to make a connection.

My 16 Jan 1645 is on the LDS.

Can you confirm if yours is in 1745 or 1746 on FindMyPast? You have both mentioned.

Thank you.

FindMyPast has three entries for the marriage, one says 1745, two say 1746.

The marriage is also on FreeReg and gives the year as 1745/6
