I found Henry snr on 1881 census with his 3 sons, but clearly not with Fanny. Louisa is missing ,possibly the girl in the Liverpool orphanage in 1881,although age is out a bit.
I do not understand registering or baptising the children under Puckeridge if they are Pitman.
Edith is registered with Henry as father but is known as Pitman. Also why are two Pitman children born in Whitehaven where Henry is living with his sons?

Thanks so much to all, but I am more confused than ever. I do not have the Whitehaven group of children and they aren’t around subsequently. The family seems to be all over the place and the birthplaces change. Henry Jnr has Southport as place of birth, then Portsmouth.

There was lots of (marine) traffic between the Isle of Man and Whitehaven in those days.

"Southport" could be a misreading of Southsea?

Well ... It looks like Fanny and Henry married in 1859, had at least 8 children together, then some time after 1876 and before 1878 Fanny left Henry and started a family with John PITTMAN, having at least 4 more children.
Some of the children are with Henry, some with Fanny.

In 1891 at Brighton:
John Pittman    50     Wiltshire
Frances Pittman   48  Sussex
Emily A Pittman    11  Sussex
Thomas Pittman     9   Sussex
Herbert J Pittman   8   Sussex
William Puckeridge Stepson   27   London
Edward Penny   Boarder     32   Somersetshire
RG12/810/ 38 pg 13

Modified to add:
It was not uncommon for the children of one marriage to be be known by the surname of the new partner.

Looking at my tree all the above children are on it named ‘Pitman’ after the second husband, or was Fanny even married to him. On a late census she is still Puckeridge, but earlier ones she is Pitman.

Fanny was married to Henry but I can't find a marriage to John.
