There are some school admission registers and log books. Probably in county/local archives. Some have been digitised.

I think 1940s is too recent to be online because of privacy rules. The only school records I've seen were c1870-c1910.

An excellent school record from County Durham. Last time I looked his Birth Certificate mentioned in the school records was not available from Pennsylvania. From my notes …………..

1921: Robert Thomas Bowes admitted to Shotton Colliery School 14 Nov 1921. Birth Certificate provided. Born 27 NOV 1913.  Father William Bowes, 2 South View, Sherburn Colliery. Previous school Ludworth ( All County Durham). Last day of attendance at school 7 February 1928.  (Left qualified by age). Admission Registers Sherburn Colliery School, FHL Film 1885429 Items 8-10. Birth certificate mentioned above issued in Throop, Lakawana County, Pennsylvania, USA and probably not available yet. Killed in a mining accident Sherburn Hill Colliery, County Durham, 16 November 1928.
