Wow! Thanks so much for all of the help.

I haven't been able to find a birth record for Annie either. I wonder if Stuart is a hint to that or not.

What piqued my interest in her is I was doing a Google search of my 2nd great-grandfather and found the following on Wyndham Lewis. I have to transcribe it  because I don't know how to successfully add a photo here:

Some Sort of Genius: A Life of Wyndham Lewis by Paul O'Keeffe, Page 403

(In reference to his book America, I Presume)
"The narrator is a caricatured Englishman, complete with monocle, Lewis adopted the Indian Army background of one of his maternal forebears, although not Lieutenant Henry Benson Stuart's rank, for the blimpish Major Archibald Corcoran."

Henry Benson Stuart is my 2nd great-grandfather. Born 1835 in India and died 1897 in Portsea. He had at least 4 children outside of his marriages. I'm wondering now if Annie Stuart Prickett might be one of his. It's probably unlikely but it's a theory of mine.

Possible death for Giles Prickett is Jun qtr 1867 Epsom, aged 38.

Yes, I wondered about that death
"On the 30th ult., at the Retreat, Epsom, Giles Prickett, eldest son of the Rev Giles Prickett, late rector of Ravenstone, Leicestershire, aged 38."
 Leicester Chronicle. (June 15, 1867)

Modified to add:
This Giles also fits with Frances M  PRICKETT  (possibly DANGERFIELD?) (sister in law to Ann PRICKETT and aunt to Annie LEWIS) who possibly married Thomas PRICKETT, son of Giles PRICKETT bap 8 April 1833 (of Giles and Elizabeth) at Breedon on the Hill, Leicershire.

A possibility (which needs double checking please) :

From Freebmd :

Marriage:

Frances Mary Dangerfield - Thomas Prickett 1d 146 Dec Qtr 1860 - St George Southwark

Birth (the year before) from Freebmd/GRO

Annie Stuart Dangerfield - mmn Dangerfield - Chelsea 1a 175 - Dec 1859 Qtr

Ooh that's good! That makes sense too because I believe in 1911 Annie and Frances are still living together. I'll look into that a bit more. Thanks!

That’s a great find.

Frances would have been a very young mother in 1859 so perhaps she gave up her baby to the childless Annie?

In 1871 Thomas Prickett 39 and Frances 29 are in Battersea.  No children.

Annie's birth is registered in the last quarter of 1859. Frances and Thomas don't marry until November 1860. Can I presume that Thomas is not Annie's father?

I don’t think the dates are conclusive either way, but my instinct would be that if Thomas was the father the baby would be more likely to have been brought up by him and Frances together.

I'm thinking if Thomas was the father then they might have married a bit sooner and probably would have raised her.

On the 1911 census Frances and Annie live in the same house. Frances is down as her aunt and has down 1 child born and 1 child living.

I think Stuart might be a clue as to who the father of Annie was.

If I were you I would be looking at Henry Benson Stuart, mentioned in the Wyndham Lewis extract.

He married in London in November 1859 to Isabella Louisa Carter, perhaps disappointing Frances.

He recognized some of his other illegitimate children but that doesn't mean he has some unknown. He had 3 children with Isabella, two children with a Julia Johnson. Then he married Anna Mary Bourke after his first wife died. They had no children but he had two children with Sarah Elizabeth Whiting while he was married to Anna. Quite the scoundrel.
