Chivers/Cheevers help please Wiltshire
« on: Saturday 10 August 19 14:25 BST (UK) »
I'm doing a distant family members family tree. What I have is:
Richard Ffiliks  b:abt 1617 Rowde,Wiltshire, d: 1669 Rowde,Wiltshire mar. 27 Jun 1642 Rowde,W/Shire. to Anne Paynter b: 1577 d:5 Jun 1629 W/shire .
Richards father is also Richard Ffilks b:abt 1570 & his mother Ann Chivers b:1577 d:5 Jun 1629 (mar. 1594 Rowde,W/Shire)
This is where I need help.
I have Ann's father as being Roger Chivers b:1547 Caine,W/Shire d:May 1602 Caine W/Shire. & Ann's mother as being Elizabeth Elkington (no details).
On reading a who's who on the Cheevers family, I have a Thomas Cheevers who's father is Sir Christopher Cheevers.
I look at Family Search on Ann and it says her father is Thomas Roger Cheevers(Chivers) and her mother Joanna Dobson (1561-1584).
Would appreciate any help to clarify this
Regards
Anderson

Richard Filkes married Ann Paynter (a Widow) on 27 Jun 1642 at Rowde, Wiltshire - source Wiltshire Marriage index.

You have Ann born 1577 - Marrying in 1642 and dying in 1629  :-\ . She is a lot older than Richard who you have born 1617.

ADDED I think you may have used Ann nee Chivers birth / death in error

Too many Ann's Rosie;
Should have been:
Anne PAYNTER b:abt 1604 Rowde,W/Shire - d: 1681 Rowde,W/Shire.
                                   married
Richard Ffilks on the 27 Jun 1642 Rowde,W/Shire

Richards mother is Ann CHIVERS b:1577  d:5 Jun 1629 W/Shire.

Trying to work out if Ann Chivers father is Roger CHIVERS or Thomas Roger CHIVERS or are they the same person?
Family Search shows Ann's father as Thomas Roger CHEEVERS and other web sites is shown as Roger CHIVERS.

Trying to see if any connection to Sir Christopher CHEEVERS.

What is your source of the 1594 marriage of Richard Filkes and Ann Chivers, also the baptism of their son Richard.

Could you please give a link to the familysearch record you mention for Ann's father Thomas Roger Cheevers

Not sure I can find a link other than hitting the search of Family Search on the person's name in Ancestral Quest. Which I use.
With Ann and the dates given. Possible matches for Ann on FS. It shows a FS PID ? For Ann as being KLG2 NHQ and spouse Richard Filkes (KLG2 F5D) marriage  abt1594 Rowde Wiltshire.
Also shows Anns parents as Sir Thomas Roger Chivers (1547-1602) & Joanna Dodson (1561-1584). All of this from Family Search.

Sorry but most people on here would advise you to look at parish registers/ bishops transcripts and not rely on online trees.  Familysearch trees are for the purpose of baptising 'dead' people into the Mormon Church and cannot be relied on for their accuracy.  It is always better to do your own research from parish registers

There seem to be references to wills for the surname Filkes living in Rowde, do you have copies of them.  There is no mention of any Chivers wills around the right time.

Thanks for your advice Rosie. Can you please tell me how I can look up online the parish registers/ bishops transcripts. We are in Australia so going to the registries is not an option.
I don't have any wills etc. Can you please have a look at CHEEVERS then.
Many thanks

Ancestry & FindMyPast have some transcripts for Rowde.  It may be worth checking your local LDS family history centre to see what they have available.
