Moran family of Westport
« on: Monday 12 August 19 14:19 BST (UK) »
I've managed to track my father's family through to his maternal grandfather. He was  a John Moran of Westport born in approximately 1841, possibly marrying an Ellen Mahoney in Staffordshire round about 1870. I now need advice on how to find out more about his origins, and when he may have come to England. Any assistance appreciated, thank you.

Aughaval

Variant forms of parish name:
Westport
Drumin

Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.

The best place to find more about him is in English records, his marriage may give his father's name and occupation.
The only way to figure out when he may have left Ireland is to see when he first appears in England Census, there are no records of travel between Ireland and England.
