The mysterious Charles Alfred Betts -
« on: Tuesday 13 August 19 18:45 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find the birth details of Charles Alfred Betts who appears on the census of 1911 as being married to Elizabeth Betts. - The census states he was born in Islington and says he is 31 years old.  On the marriage certificate of Charles and Elizabeth he lists his father as also Charles Alfred Betts (deceased) - Traveller.
I have found a probable entry for the Charles Alfred I am tracing in the 1901 Census - living at 146 Gladstone Avenue, Wood Green with his mother Alice and sister Ruth but  I am having great difficulty finding any record of his father - and cannot find his birth certificate to verify that his father was Charles Alfred and his mother Alice ?
Would be most grateful for any help in finding the birth certificate of Charles Alfred Betts, born 1881 in Islington. tunod

JonW65 - many thanks for you reply.  I  had found this entry but was hoping to find his birth certificate to be sure that his mother was indeed Alice.  I am struggling to find his father anywhere else in any census.
I have obtained a marriage certificate for a Charles Betts and Alice Caton, she is a widow at the time of her marriage to this particular Charles in 1879. The 1881 Census lists a second son Arthur who is 4 and I wondered if he was the son of her previous husband. He appears in the 1891 Census but I can't find him after that.  The family are hard to pin down.

Hi
What was Alice's maiden name? Have you found a marriage for her to Mr. Caton?
John

There's a school record for a Ruth Betts, born 6 Dec 1885, mother Alice.
That is south of the Thames in 1893

Thank you both for your help.  Apologies too for the stupid mistake in my subject title.  It is indeed
Charles Alfred Betts.  I will have a look at the info you suggest.  Where do you find school records by the way.
On the marriage certificate I have for Charles Betts and Alice Caton he is 25 years old, an implement salesman,  living at 225 Essex Road, , father william Betts, Drapery Warehouseman, deceased.  Alice Caton (no maiden name given) widow, no occupation (on the census she is always living under her own means! ), living at 25 Queens Road Dalston and her father is William Meason, or Neason (this name if very difficult to read), Captain Royal Navy, also deceased.  I can find no marriage for Alice and Mr Caton, nor can I find any birth records for her first born son Arthur Jon, born in Jersey in the 1891 Census, but this changes to Islington in the later census.
Thanks for your help. Tuned
