Elizabeth James- Sheffield. Parents missing?
« on: Wednesday 14 August 19 09:02 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Looking for the parents of elizabeth james born 1842 in sheffield, south yorkshire. She died 2 may 1929 sheffield. She married Thomas Pemberton born 1839 sheffield and he died 14 july 1918 sheffield. They married 1861 in sheffield.
Not found anything out about her parents.
Can anyone give me any clues?

Thanks!

Well,
It's a common name.
What else can you tell us of the marriage?
eg address, names of fathers, names of witnesses?
It took place at which town/area/venue within the sheffield area?

Pauline

Sorry i don't know the exact venue of their wedding.
Only know it was sheffield.
Not entirely sure who thomas pemberton's father is either.

It was Ecclesall Bierlow district.
Try again when you have the marriage certificate.

EDIT:
There may be a transcript on FindMyPast; don't know how comprehensive the transcript is.

I found a family tree on family search.
I found elizabeth james and it said her parents were edward james born 1819 sheffield and elizabeth roberts born 1820 in hickman county, tennessee, but i don't know if that's correct.

There is a marriage between Elizabeth James aged 19 and Thomas Pemberton aged 21 which took place at Christ Church, Heeley on 25 March 1861. Thomas was a Knife Spring Maker as was his father John Pemberton. Elizabeth's father was Edward James a Silver Stamper. Witnesses John Burgoyne and Emma Beckett.

The James family and the married couple are togetrher in the 1861 census RG09/3473/122/27.
Looking at GRO records for births of the James children,I would favour a marriage of Edward James to Elizabeth Battersby 1840 Sheffield.
