I appreciate that they are running a business!
As a pensioner I can't afford all the subs!
I just thought it was a bit misleading🙄🙄

Having used Ancestry for 10 years i have never had a hint for a child that lead me to a father.
Guess i'm too picky for time wasting.

A new data set has been added recently on Ancestry.
Newspapers.com Obituary Index, 1800s-current
Requires a subscription to an Ancestry operated site, most disappointing when I already have a worldwide subscription.
But this note on the hint made me smile.
These facts were pulled from a record by a computer and may not be accurate.

I use Ancestry hints with a degree of scepticism and care, and have often found them very useful - especially in suggesting married names for female ancestors when otherwise you have to search a number of possible surnames in censuses after a possible marriage record.

My one complaint is those baptism records where they link it to a mother/father name without a date shown and you find when you open it that you're looking for 1850's and it's a baptism in 1760.

Yes, I suppose that may be helpful in further research on the family, but I'm not looking for the grandparents of my research subject just at the moment.....

You can now give feedback on the hints. This will help them to improve the algorithms.

I make a point of ticking all boxes that are applicable, not just one. If they want the feedback, we should really give it to them.

Can anyone beat this for the remote relevance of a hint?
I just got one for one Henry Thomas Hardess;
Husband of mother-in-law of 2nd great-grandfather.

That would be a reasonable hint. It relates to someone in your tree! Just because you are not researching him right now is irrelevant. He might have a very interesting story to tell you, and you might be missing out.  :)

It's when you follow it and find it is actually a record of a William Hardacre who died in India 150 years before your HTH was born that you wish that Ancestry would use common sense.
Looking at ALSTON in south Ribble area, ALSTEAD and DONBAVAND/DUNBABIN etc. everywhere, HOWCROFT and MARSH in Bolton and Westhoughton, PICKERING in the Whitehaven area.

I agree that it is a legitimate hint.
My amusement was at the extreme remoteness of the relationship :)

Ah, but when - as you will - you follow him up, you will possibly find half the 'missing' children living with them.......
Maybe.  :D :D :D
