Annetts of south Wales
« on: Thursday 15 August 19 16:54 BST (UK) »
I'm tracing a Price family from Llanbedr in south Wales.  I have a Rosina May Annetts born 1894 marrying a Thomas Price in 1916 Reg Merthyr T. They appear on the 1939 register living at the Red Lion Inn Llanbedr along with two redacted people (I presume my mother in law and her sister Irene). The family only knew about Irene (Reene, mother's name recorded as Annetta), but when I look up any Price child born after 1916 with a mother's name of Annetts I find a group of other people in Merthyr T who could be family, but ALL die as small children. Was there some terrible disease in the area around the 1920s? Or did the Annetts carry a gene that was fatal to boys?

Welcome to rootschat

Infant deaths were often because of poverty, only the death certificates would give you the true answer as to why they died.

I can only see 3 births in Merthyr on free bmd:
George P in June quarter 1917, Thomas P in June quarter 1920 and Irene M in September quarter  1923, so who is your Mother-in-law, and only 2 deaths, so hardly a group?

I have the marriage of Rosina and Thomas in Dec 1916 Merthyr T 11a 1240.Birth Geoarge P Jun 1917 Merthy T 11a 657. Died Jun 1920.
Birth Thomas M born Jun 1920 Merthyr T 11a 1851. Doed 1923.
Possible?? Birth James RV Cardiff 11a 509. mother Annetts. Died 1928.
Looking at births for Annetts in Merthyr T, Upton, Newent and Wheatenhurst seems to throw up a lot of infant deaths.
Mother in law's possible birth certificate is in the post at the moment, but presumed to be Joyce A Nash born Mar 1926 Ormskirk 8b 1453. She was adopted by the Price family in Llanbedr.

My Annetts family don't seem to be affected by anything more fatal to boys than to girls. Rosina May Annett's father was George born Reading about 1848/9. I believe he was the son of Richard Annetts and Harriet Cully baptised in Reading on 14 May 1848. Richard was the son of William Annetts, the half brother of my 2 x great grandfather John Annetts.

I think the Newent Annetts go back to William Annetts born Eldersfield Worcestershire and his wife Phoebe Coldrick. Probably not related to the Berkshire family.

E B Annetts could be Rosina's sister Edith Blanche. Rosina had a brother George. I know he was born in Scotland, but haven't got a middle name for him. George snr was in army and the family moved around a bit
