Hi Rosie

Many thanks I missed that he must have come down from Scotland prior to his marriage.

Kind Regards

You seem to have added a digit to the year in the title.  We are genealogists not futurologists.  :)
Are the people named deceased?

There was a James Frederick Adams born in Ayr/Ayrshire in 1928 (Scotlands People Index)

Did he ever return to Scotland?
There is a James Frederick Adams who died in Kirkintilloch and Lennoxtown in 2007 aged 79, mothers maiden name Neill.
