lady Nesta Follister Walker
« on: Thursday 15 August 19 21:09 BST (UK) »
Hi, I run the Lan History Project. A member has asked if I know anything of a lady Nesta Follister Walker who lived at Greenmeadow Mansion in Tongwynlais. I have searched without luck to answer this question. I have already researched the history of GreenMeadow Mansion to no avail. Can anyone find her? The member was putting forward the request for a relative in the USA who was named after her. Thanks.  :)

Is it possible that it is Nesta Forestier-Walker of Wentlooge Castle that is the lady in question?

Regards
Roger

Slice of info from the link that KGarrad provided

Nesta Forestier-Walker was born on 8 June 1900.1 She was the daughter of Sir George Ferdinand Forestier-Walker, 3rd Bt. and Georgina Emily Chamberlain.2 She married Major Robert Orlando Rodolph Kenyon-Slaney, son of Colonel Rt. Hon. William Slaney Kenyon-Slaney and Lady Mabel Selina Bridgeman, on 25 April 1931.1 She died on 22 February 1947 at age 46.1
     Her married name became Kenyon-Slaney.

There are more servants than family in the 1901 census!

Can I thank all of you for your research. I have now passed it on to the elderly lady who  in her childhood, rode with Lady Nestor and was named after her. We are now trying to assess how she could have come into contact with Lady Nestor. My main idea is that it was through the hunt, given her father was a farmer. She remembers riding with him from Pentyrch to Tongwynlais and going to Greenmeadow Mansion. Her father was George LLewellyn 1880-1966. I wonder if there is a Llewellyn in the servant list. She has a copy of the picture of Lady Nestor (below) at Greenmeadow Mansion, Tongwynlais.

Again, many thanks. My research abilities are limited and you are all experts. So wonderful that you can help this elderly lady. I will write it up for the local history page.  :) Norma

If her father was a farmer - he would not appear in a servant list.  Only persons living in the actual household are shown on census entries

Where did he farm?

Her father's farm was Blaenbeilly in Pentyrch. There were several children -Thomas 1865, David 1867, Martha1868 (died aged 2), Lewis 1891 (father) John 1877, George 1880, Henry 1883, Susanna 1885 and Harry 1888. Another researcher noted a lot of servants. I wondered if one of her siblings could have been in service for Lady Nesta or at Greenmeadow. Many thanks for your interest.  :)

PS Pentyrch is not so very far from Tongwynlais.
