The Moores of Highway
« on: Sunday 18 August 19 16:25 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I’ve been in a rut with the Moore family for a while.

My earliest known ancestor is Mary Moore, who had two illegitimate sons:

James Moore, christened at Highway on the 10th of April 1803

Isaac Moore, christened at Highway on the 25th of October 1807

I don’t know what became of Mary. I have found no marriage or burial for her.

However, there were other Moores living at Highway contemporaneously.

John Moore, a groom of Highway, married Jane Hughes at Bromham on the 12th of December 1800. They christened the following children at Highway:

Catherine Moore, christened on the 3rd of April 1803

William Moore, christened on the 25th of April 1805

Robert Moore, christened on the 29th of January 1809

Maria Moore, christened on the 20th of December 1812

James Moore, christened on the 6th of August 1815

I believe John Moore was buried at Highway on the 5th of April 1829 (aged 70) and Jane on the 31st of October 1845 (aged 81). Their advanced age does make me question whether they are the John and Jane Moore, but they’re the only ones in Highway, and the only people surnamed Moore in that parish barring my Mary Moore.

Can anyone help me?

Adam

I also see burials for:

George Moore, buried on the 10th of April 1831 (aged 62)

William Moore, buried on the 17th of April 1826 (aged 63)

Mary Moore, buried on the 17th of February 1836 (aged 70)

Elizabeth Moore, wife of William, buried on the 13th of July 1802

Additionally, George Moore married Frances Andrews at Highway on the 7th of April 1792.

There are only two christenings for Mores (not Moore) in Highway prior to 1800. These are for Betty More (1774) and James More (1775), both children of John and Betty Moore.

George Moore would’ve been born c. 1769 according to his burial, and there is a George Moore christened in Cherhill that year, the son of John and Betty.
