Help Appreciated for Edinburgh Baptism
« on: Monday 19 August 19 11:10 BST (UK) »
Is it possible for someone to look for the Birth/Baptism of Peter Riva the son of Peter Riva and Margaret Donegan. It would be c1824 in Edinburgh. The surname could be spelt as Riva: Reva and sometimes River. Could possibly be Roman Catholic.
Many Thanks
Alan

His parents didn't marry until 24/12/1824 with sister born 9 months later.

Why is it believed that a son Peter bc.1824?   No trace on census and a tree on Ancestry shows father Peter married again and had a son Peter from that marriage?

Hi Annette7

One reason is that someone on Ancestry has posted an actual date for the birth on their tree but they haven't supplied a reference point as to where they found that date. The date they have given is  24 Dec 1824 • Edinburgh Midlothian Scotland. I never accept dates without a reference point. If anything it would be a baptismal date but I can find no reference point between the dates 1800-1860 but that doesn't mean that there isn't one. I have found in the past that just because I can't find one, some kind individual might find one that I have overlooked.

No question marks necessary - marriage of Peter Reva and Margaret Donegan is recorded on 24 December 1824 in Edinburgh Canongate parish register.

Yet another inaccurate tree on Ancestry, I'm afraid.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
