Connell family of Newbridge, Co. Kildare
« on: Sunday 25 August 19 12:21 BST (UK) »
Can you confirm the birth of John Joseph Burke Connell (may be recorded as John Joseph Connell or O'Connell) on 5 Nov 1853 and the names of his parents, and the birth/baptism of his brother William Gregory Connell (or O'Connell) born on 9 May 1868.  Likely to be Roman Catholic.

Can you confirm the death of William Connell (or O'Connell) on 2 Oct 1875 aged 47 in Newbridge, Co. Kildare and his burial on 8 Oct 1875 likely in the Old Connell cemetery, outside of Newbridge town, Co. Kildare, and the death of Mary Connell (or O'Connell) on 13 June 1884 aged about 52(?) in Newbridge, Co. Kildare and her burial on 18 June 1884 likely in the Old Connell cemetery.  Ideally I would like to find the plot and/or grave number(s) and details of anyone else buried in the same grave/plot but maybe that would not have been recorded.

The birth in 1853 of John Joseph Burke Connell was given to me by another researcher but it tallies with his age 29 when he married in 1883 in India where he died in 1891.  His baptism is the only vital record I do not have.

The death of Wiliam Connell was registered as William Connell aged 44 in 1875 at Naas vol 17 page 715

This is a military family, stationed at one time on the Curragh, they may not have returned to Kildare, clearly they were in Dublin after the Curragh, is there anything definite to say they settled in Kildare.

Thanks, dathai, yes, it is the Will of William Connell who died in 1875 with letters of administration granted in May 1884 a few days before the death of his widow.  Both died in Newbridge but burials not found.

Yes, Sinann, William Connell was a Sgt in the 17th Leicestershire Regiment of foot and served in many locations and became a publican in Newbridge after he was discharged from the army.

There is a death cert for a William Connell aged 44 registered in Naas 1875 but the image of the cert isn't online yet.

Old Connell is a townland outside Newbridge it doesn't have a cemetery, Old Connell is also the name of the Civil parish https://www.johngrenham.com/c_parish/c_parish_main.php?civilparishid=1271&county=Kildare&civilparish=Oldconnell&CountyMap=
the nearest cemetery to Old Connell townland is in Barrettstown.

Most people from Newbridge are buried in St Conleth's Newbridge

Find a Grave has records from St.Conleth's but only 59% so far
https://www.findagrave.com/cemetery/2481432/saint-conleth%27s-cemetery

Billion Graves has Barretstown
https://billiongraves.com/cemetery/Barrettstown-Cemetery/293486
this is a old cemetery very hilly with lots of fallen, unreadable and broken headstones and unmarked graves.
