Phyllis May Duncan Pereira

My mother Phyllis May Duncan Pereira was born in Kolkata, India in 1912. I can't find any information on her other than her birth. Is there anyway of tracing her in India. She came to London in 1948 and appears to have dropped her last name and become Phyllis May Duncan. I wish I knew why she stopped using her Pereira surname. Any help would be much appreciated.

Can't help with the India part but perhaps she wanted to try to fit in better, especially with a post-war Britain, and dropped the most foreign part of her name?

I could only find 2 other Pereira ( both with English Christian names) in Calcutta .

Thank you everyone for your help. I will look at the English families with Pereira as a last name. I think she dropped the Pereira name to fit in too.

Can you confirm please.....your mother's birth was recorded as Phyllis May Duncan PEREIRA, in Kolkata, India, 1912.

What names do you see for her parents?

Are there siblings....who might also drop the PEREIRA name in later life?

Your mother arrived in England 1948 as Phyllis May DUNCAN ....an unmarried woman?

And married in England 1948+ as Phyllis May DUNCAN?

Phyllis May Duncan Beattie (born Pereira), 1912 - 1995
Parents Charles Phyllis May Duncan Beattie (born Pereira) was born in 1912, at birth place, to Clarence Charles Turnbull Pereira and Kate Madeline Pereira.
Clarence was born on July 2 1860, in Patna, Bengal, India.
Kate was born on July 6 1892.
Phyllis married first name Beattie.
They had one child.
Phyllis passed away in 1995, at age 83.

Wivenhoe yes I can confirm you have the right birth details. Her Mother was Kate Madeline Pereira and her father Clarence Charles Turnbull Pereira. I cannot find any history of her whereabouts in India she just appears in 1948 in London. I would love to find any Indian records of her. I do know she was in India up until the war.
