Missing relative
« on: Tuesday 27 August 19 10:51 BST (UK) »
Where do I look next?

My relative born in Scotland in 1858. Birth cert seen on Scotlandspeople.
He is in 1861 and 1871 censuses respectively the latter as aged 14 and working as a "rivet boy" in shipyard.

Then nothing. No sign of him in 1881 census and later. No sign of him in marriage or death records.

Where to look next?

Welcome to Rootschat  :)

Have you found his family after 1871? If you post his name, date of birth, names of parents, census records and anything else you have already found we'll try to help.

Yes. I found his family in all censuses up to 1901 in Scotland.

His parents died in 1864 and 1898 respectively - death certificates seen. I found all his brothers and sisters subsequent marriage and death records. All of these in Glasgow.

He is not mentioned anywhere.

My conclusion is emigration from Glasgow or death ... and I just can't find him.

If you post details on his and his family we might be able to track down what happened to him.

If you lose track of him in Scotland try emigration records. Since he was a shipyard worker it might also be worth looking around some of the main shipbuilding areas in England to see if he had to leave home to find work. Try around the Tyne, Wear, Tees and Mersey shipyards.

Was there not a message earlier with details of the person you are looking for? Came back to do some searching but looks like post was altered?
