From my own experiences there seems to be only a very small amount of online historic SA newspapers and finding an SA obit is like finding gold dust. EGGSA has a few transcriptions, but still has a long way to go. Then there are some pay sites, but I believe that they don't go as far as the 1940's. I suppose you might have a minuscule chance in the British newspapers which I haven't tried yet.

A local SA person might be able to tell you more ...

Since the South African National Library has never acquired any of them, I guess her books were published for the British market and made little impact in South Africa, so doubtful any obituary etc would mention her writing career of two decades earlier.
