If you ever do have an Ancestry sub or on one of their free weekends have a look for James in the Postal Appointments, if he was a postman before 1922 he should be listed, if he is listed see if there is a mention of Dublin. The Irish postal service had to check the UK appointments books to see what postmen from pre 1922 were due pension wise.

Worth seeing if a WWI record survives as well.

There is a John McGinty Mary Cooney marriage in 1867 in Co.Mayo

Hi.. I know this post has been inactive for sometime but I've got some general info to pass on. Agnes Mooney was the sister of William Mooney who is my relation. He was married to a Janet Gordon who appears to be the witness at Agnes's marriage. Agnes's mother was Bridget Feeney who was born in Ireland and later married to a Matthew mooney (I think he was born in Ayrshire) I wonder if Andrew Canavans connection to Ireland was through his dad's female line???
