This is absolutely brilliant Sinann,

I know nothing at all about the Canavan's except Andrew came to Ellesmere Port where he married.

Andrews son doesnt even know about his grandad apart from he came from Ireland and thought he might be scottish.

I was completely stuck until this information, so your help is greatly appreciated

You need to get the marriage from Scotland's People to have any chance of going further back.
I would think either James or Catherine or both had an earlier connection to Mayo but the answers are in Scotland.

I'll get some of the more recent names from the newspaper and PM them to you later, time to eat now.

Hi,

I have managed to obtain the marriage record for James Canavan and Kate McGinley 01/01/1908 at St Marys Chapel in Paisley, Scotland.

James 's father is recorded as Andrew Canavan, and mother recorded as Agnes Mooney. However I cannot locate a marriage certificate in Scotland.

Are there any records in Ireland for them?

I have only located them on the 1891 census under Cannavan in Scotland and on the 1901 census under Canavan in Scotland but Agnes's surname is recorded as Corcoran and she is a widow. Her mother is also on the census as Mooney and this is the mothers surname on the James's marriage record.
