James Veitch, born Innerleithen 1783
« on: Friday 30 August 19 21:51 BST (UK) »
James Veitch was born in 1783, or thereabouts, and christened in Innerleithen. In 1814 he married Agnes Paul in Dunbartonshire, and remained there farming for the rest of his life. Does anyone know who his parents were, or any other details of his forbears? He must be connected with the famous Veitches of Dawyck, just as I am with the Tweedies of Drumelzier Castle!!

No problem.

There were many Veitch's around the area of Peebles/Innerleithan. My husband is descended from the branch that settled in and around Cockpen/Bonnyrigg in the early 1800's.

Dorrie: thanks. I am descended from Thomas Tweedie born in Lasswade in 1734. He must be connected with the famous Tweedies, who, along with the Veitches of Dawyck, were ordered to behave by James VI !!
