Thank you all for your help and advice.Mary Marguerite is easily found on the 1911 census.
This census gives you her exact age in months. Given that the 1911 census was taken on the 2nd April you can easily work out approximately the month of her birth 
Having worked that out it's not too difficult to find her in the 1939 Register (we can't do look-ups from that either) and to find out what her occupation was at that time.
Ah - got her as being born about November 1910 according to the Staffordshire 1911 census. This fits with something I was told about the Hodgson family being from Stafford, though when they were there was unclear.
That MMH was born was in London doesn't surprise me as Vera was born at St. George Hanover Square.
However I'm not having much luck with the 1939 registry. I'm finding to Mary Hodgson's in Lancashire, and to in Yorkshire (East Riding). Neither of these means anything in terms of family lore. None of these refer to a middle name or initial.
Looking for relatives of John Cowham Parker (1773-1841), mayor of Hull & had 2 wives, Ann Goodhand & Elizabeth/Eliza Speedings. And information of John Goodhand Parker, William Bilbie Parker, Henry Watson Parker, Marion Parker (nee Rorauer), Wilfred Watson Parker & Frances Charlotte Mary Purssell (& her parents Alfred Purssell & Ellen Ware, and grandparents Roger & Charlotte Purssell).
Also Maternal line - Hodgson, Bacon, Stapylton, Slingsby, Percy, Mortimer.
