john and Kate Dunne Portarlington and their son Joseph
« on: Saturday 07 September 19 11:54 BST (UK) »
I can find this family in 1911 census. At this point John and Kate have been married for 16 years and had 5 living children. Their son Joseph was my grandfather.  I believe Kate was Kate Gannon before she married.  In 1901 census I can see Kate with two children but there is no mention of the husband John who I believe was originally from County Carlow and this is where I need help as it is not exactly an unusual name so I cannot go backwards to the next generation and, I would like to know where he was in 1901. In 1901, Kate is shown as the head of household  and a greengrocer living at 1 Church Lane which is where you find the family in1911.
I think that I found Joseph at the Royal Hibernian Military school in Dublin  but cannot be sure that this is him. In the notes it says that he was struck off but there is no other information. He married Annie Paisley in 1927. I have her father Christopher but cannot find his father Thomas who was a tailor.

"Portarlington, historically called Cooletoodera, is a town on the border of County Laois and County Offaly, Ireland."
You might need to check more than one county/registration district for records.

Possible birth for Joseph

OP
Might this be the death of Thomas Paisley in 1902 – his occupation tailor?
It looks like the informant is C Paisley, son (Christopher?)    #109
