Help Deciphering Witness Name To 3rd GG Baptism Please
« on: Monday 09 September 19 01:51 BST (UK) »
My 3rd GG was born in Aberdeen 1819; entry below.  The second witness appears to be Andrew Burns; not sure of the first name.  Any help appreciated!  Lyle

I thought 'Gould' to start with too, but I think you're right with Gauld Annie,
It looks more like an 'a' than an 'o' - see the 'o' in 'Gordon' of the wife's name.

I thought the same.

If you are looking for James, you may want to search using variations of spellings, though “Gauld” does appear as a surname in Scotland.

Yes, I think you're right  now that I look again. "GAULD" - certainly there is at least one James GAULD mentioned in Aberdeen around the time.

Hello Annie, 'maddys52', 'Goldie61' and 'Ruskie',

Thanks all for your replies; much appreciated!

After re-looking at the 'a', I agree with Annie as well - it looks like James Gauld.

I hopped on Scotlandspeople and there is a James Gauld listed who is about the same age as William Edwards & Margaret Gordon.  He married an Elizabeth Gordon; perhaps that is the connection.  And a great clue for me to follow-up on for what has been a Gordon family brick wall.

Much thanks,
Lyle
