Walter William Archer
« on: Monday 09 September 19 07:49 BST (UK) »
Hi there,

Walter William Archer (my grandfather) was born 2 Feb 1905 in Ashfield NSW. In the 1930's he lived in Corowa, got married (not to my grandmother). 1937 is the last year I can find any info on him  until his death in 1969 in St Leonards, NSW. I was wondering if anyone can help with any info on him particularly his death date and which cemetery he is buried/cremated in.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Gaye

Hi,

The info on his NSW DEath cert includes date of death, cause of death, where buried/cremated, as certified by medico and funeral director.  The info about his  family history is informant driven but can include details of marriage/s ... who to, when, children... as well as his occupation, his origins....
Official transcriptions are available and will provide same info for about $20.

It looks like the date of his death drills down to 4 August 1969 on the NSW BDM website's index.

Can't see him much on the electoral rolls except for these entries which may be him:
1954
Walter William ARCHER, timber yardman
5981 Willoughby Rd, North Sydney
No-one else of that surname at that address.

Given that he appears in the death notice below and it seems he (or his family) was in Melbourne this may be him;
1943
at 144 Adderley, St, Melbourne.  Occupation: gas filler
agian, no-one else of that surname at that address.

There is this death notice in The Sydney Morning Herald, April 9, 1951
ARCHER May Amelia -March 7 1951. at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Victoria
loving wife of Walter William Archer 70 Lennox Street Richmond Melbourne and loved mother of Kevin, Graham and Janice.

The same notice was placed in The Age (Melbourne paper) and a funeral notice for her - buried at Box Hill

I notice his marriage in Corowa (NSW 3189/1932) to a May Amelia QUIRK so I assume this is your man's wife.

In the estate of May Amelia ARCHER, the Executrix Mary Cecilia QUIRK of same address, 70 Lennox Street Richmond. applied for probate.
A woman named M. QUIRK shares the burial place with May Amelia. Her perhaps.

By 1968, one of the children, of May Amelia ARCHER mentioned above, was at that address.

So it seems Mr ARCHER is not around.
