Thomas Grieves/Greaves born abt 1803 Westmoreland
« on: Tuesday 10 September 19 12:30 BST (UK) »
Hi I`m hoping someone might be able to help.

My husbands 2 x Great grandmother Eleanor was born in Blyth Northumberland in abt 1838 to Thomas Grieves and Sarah Maclin. I found the family on the 1841 census in Earsdon Northumberland. The name was transcribed Griener. On the 1851 census they are living in Blyth. On the 1851 census it has that Thomas was born in Westmoreland and what looks like Trenalale and Sarah was born in Scotland.

I have hit a brick wall with Thomas Grieves. The following deaths are

In the Newcastle Guardian and Tyne Mercury on the 26th Aug on the 20th inst at Cowpen Quay, of English Cholera,Mr Thomas Grieves, Coal trimmer

Then Sarah
Newcastle Guardian and Tyne Mercury 02 Sep 1854
At Cowpen Quay, on the 24th ult., aged 46, Sarah, widow of Mr Thomas Grieves, Coal-Trimmer

Regards
Susan

I think the birthplace in the 1851 Census says Kendale (Kendal). Not that it helps as I can't find a birth/baptism.

Hi Rosie

I`m not able to find the marriage. Going off the births of Eleanors siblings the mothers maiden name was Maclin, Mackling, Macling or Maclan. I have not found her family either so I dont know if she moved from Scotland to Northumberland and they were married there or if in Scotland or Westmoreland
