Which Thomas Moseley Married Ann Okel?
« on: Wednesday 11 September 19 07:47 BST (UK) »
I have two Thomas Moseley’s, one married Ann Okel, the other did not.

The one I THINK married Ann Okel was born 28 Nov 1800 at Sandbach, Cheshire, with parents Thomas Moseley and Ann Breeze.

The other Thomas was baptised 1 Jan 1804 at Church Minshull, Cheshire, with parents William Moseley and Elizabeth Hassell.

Thomas and Ann married 23 May 1822 at Davenham, Cheshire. He was 24, and she was 19. They married with the consent of parents.

I have the census records for Thomas and Ann, and family in 1841, 1851, 1861

In 1871, I have Thomas shown as married, but Ann is not recorded

In 1841, he is aged 35.
In 1851 he is aged 50.
In 1861, he is aged 60
In 1871, he is aged 71

All this would indicate that the one I am looking for is the one born 1800 at Sandbach, Cheshire.

Is it possible for someone of the marvellous Rootschatters put my mind at rest as to the correct Thomas.

Just a thought - one of the witnesses was William Moseley  :-\  And have you seen the Marriage Bond/Allegation?  Thomas is a farmer from Moulton in the parish of Davenham, and Ann Okell is from Wharton.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

A possible mistranscription - the parish is Davenham.

Both Moulton and Wharton are townships within the parish of Davenham.  The Thomas born to William and Elizabeth had a brother William baptised 1806. I cannot find a William baptised to Thomas and Ann.
Thomas was baptised 1 January 1804 in Church Minshull so would most likely have been born 1803 or earlier. None of the images give a year of birth, just the baptism. William, the father, was a Miller by trade.

Thank you all for your input. I will have to go through the information, and sort things out.

BumbleB, I thought I had the marriage bond, but at this moment cannot see it :-[

garsonite, thank you for that, I will follow it up.

emeltom, thank you for the geography information. As I am in Australia, that helps a lot.

Annette7, I have not got that information, so thank you for it. I had his burial as Oct 1875, the same as the other one, ooopps :-[

Again, many thanks to all of you.

Thank you all for your help, on this interesting problem.

Finally, I have sorted them out.

They are cousins, with the parents Thomas and William brothers, with parents Robert Moseley (1740-1826) and Ann Manley (1740-1778)

I made sure of it by using pen and paper to trace them back to Robert and Ann. ::)

One of those minor interesting facts is that Robert married an Ann, the father Thomas married an Ann, and the Thomas I was following also married an Ann.

Just one of those interesting things in genealogy.

Again many thanks.
