Birth amd marriage records for190s India (Calcutta)
« on: Wednesday 11 September 19 17:45 BST (UK) »
I know that FindMyPast has some India BMD records which are from the British India Office. But is there any other source?
I am trying to confirm the birth of two sisters and the probable marriage of their parents in Calcutta in the 1908-1910 period. The names Shrager and Grossman may infer non-British parentage, though it seems the father died here in 1911 and the mother and daughters are on the 1911 census.

Thus, is their any other  (online) source for Indian BMD records, especially for the 1900s apart from FindMyPast. Nothing on Ancestry, Family Search.

Many thanks
John

FIBIS has a Shrager/Grossman marriage announcement from 1906 https://search.fibis.org/frontis/bin/aps_detail.php?id=1153973

I'm not sure whether these are different from what is avilable on FindMyPast - but they are free:

Thanks. The FIBIS site most useful as a quick search also found the birth of the eldest of the daughter though not naming her. But nice to confirm that Adolphe was the father, and not James as some sources say. So at least that question has been resolved. Have the bookmarked the site for future reference.

The other site is the same as the the India BMD records on FindMyPast - no sign of any Shrager records as it appears to only have BMD records for British citizens - and the Shragers had no UK connection until after the births.

Thanks again
John

I have noted this thread with interest.  I have been looking for a Joseph Stanley Ambler for some time now, but with no success.

My previous request is here: https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=809243.msg6688999#msg6688999

Just wondering if anyone with knowledge of how to search the India records could shed any light on this man.

Thanks in anticipation.
