A marriage between Robert BARON and Elizabeth FOSTER 12-10-1804 York
« on: Saturday 14 September 19 08:06 BST (UK) »
Hi, Everyone,
I have been looking into the BARON family, who for many years in the 19thC farmed in Skipsea in the East Riding.  I have come across a marriage for a Robert BARON and an Elizabeth FOSTER in York on 12th October 1804, and was wondering whether someone could tell me whether the bridegroom was indeed from Skipsea, or if indeed there is a baptismal record for about 1782 for him in that parish, as his age is given as 22 on the Ancestry transcription.
A Robert Baron appears in the 1841 Census in Skipsea as married to an Elizabeth, his age given as 55, but this might have rounded down to the nearest 5, as was their wont then!
Many thanks in advance for any assistance,
Keith

Transcription of the Marriage Bond says that both parties are from Hull, and that the intended marriage venue is Holy Trinity, Hull.  Robert is aged 22 and Elizabeth 21.

Image for the marriage entry is available on FindMyPast.  Robert is a Hackney Carr. Man.  Robert signs, Elizabeth makes her mark.  Francis Baron is one of the witnesses.  Jophn Barnard (possibly a church official) is the other witness.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

There is a baptism at Skipsea - 11 August 1782 - son of Cornwall Baron of Skipsea and Elizabeth his wife.

Thanks so much for that extremely swift response, BumbleB...
That's got me scratching my head now.  I wonder what exactly a Hackney Carr man was or did in 1804 in the East Riding.  Sounds more like a Cabbie from East London!
Regards, Keith

BumbleB,
Posts crossed in the ether there.  That has to be the individual I'm after, and possibly/probably the same man getting spliced in 1804.  What an extraordinary combination of names his father had.
I'm actually on a week's holiday in a sunny Cornwall at the moment, which has absolutely nothing to do with any of this at all, of course!
Very many thanks again, Keith

There are Robert Baron burials in Skipsea on Find a grave. 1827, age 59/ 1837 infant/ 1848 age 65. The 1848 looks the most likely.  Also a 1782 Skipsea christening for a Robert, son of Cornwall Baron & Elizabeth Smith

Thanks so much for that, Kloumann!
And on Ancestry I've just come across recorded burials of Cornwall BARON on 19th January 1809, and remarkably a Cornwall BARON senior, buried 3rd June 1811.  A case of namesake son predeceasing his grieving father by a couple of years there?
I wouldn't imagine the headstone still exists, or if it does whether the MI is still legible in All Saints Churchyard, Skipsea.  What is the air quality like there?
