He was born in Manchester and lived all his life in Manchester. Several addresses. 1891 3 Cohen Street, 1901 Dickens Street, 1907 he died at what was probably his home address of 26 Werneth Street.  I have looked through the names of Dugguns and other names that could have been mistaken for Dougan. Thanks for all the interest so far. The Slater directory for Manchester show he had a Hairdressers shop at 43 Dale Street Manchester from 1879 to 86 though was also living at 8 Butler Street. I have no idea why they moved around so much.

Two questions:
What is the evidence for him being born in Manchester? (Birth? Baptism?)
Does the marriage cert give his father's occupation?

Philip

That looks possible Ladyhawk.

I wonder what the father’s occupation was and who were the witnesses at the marriage?

The one I mentioned earlier is possibly at Back Style Street in 1851 2230/ 447/49
Ann Dugan with sons Michael 4yrs and John 8 yrs.
This would make Michael's age wrong though in later records.
Ann marries Michael Daly in 1851.

"No idea why they moved around so much" - possibly that they only rented the accommodation.  Most people at this time did not own the property - they were tenants.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!
If you don't ask the question, you won't get an answer.

Did someone mention a Gannett Street.  If so, can you give me the information again. This may be the person I am looking for.  I have the marriage certificate and it gives his father's occupation as Joiner. I cannot read the names of the witnesses  but it does look like  W McCarthy and Daisy Harriett.Thank you everyone for your help. HAVE FOUND THE GARNET STREET DETAILS. SO NO NEED TO SEND AGAIN. MANY THANKS. Thought I could link the family in Garnet street up with the family I'm looking for but so far have been unable to. So back to the drawing board.
