Woodhorn lookup request - Whittingham baptisms 1792
« on: Tuesday 17 September 19 21:08 BST (UK) »
I have a George Mavin, son of Robert and Mary who was in the old IGI as being baptised at Whittingham 22 July 1792. This year does not seem to be in the BTs (must have dropped down the side of the sofa at the Bishop's office).

If anyone is at Woodhorn and has some of that elusive stuff called 'spare time' I'd be interested to know if he's in the PR and what it says.

Thanks

Boo

I seem to recall that some of the early Whittingham records are in a bad condition but it's Wednesday tomorrow so I'll check it out for you  :)

Thanks Christine,
though if they are very hard to read, don't spend a lot of time on it. I have him quite well documented apart from this baptism record, but do still have the screenshot I took of the old IGI entry many years ago. The LDS don't seem to have these PRs so can't check it myself at the FHC.
If you can't confirm it, I will at least know its not worth me ordering a copy from the archives :-)

I have a memory of a record book badly chewed to about half way through.  On one page you got the last half of the record from the middle to the spine and on the opposite page you got the beginning of a record from the spine to the middle  :-\

It will hopefully be from an earlier time than you need - fingers crossed.

Well, I wasn't wrong about the state of the records!  The earliest ones are transcribed with lots of gaps, then there's a section which is simply scraps of the book and then there was the one you needed.  It's not chewed but black around the edges to about quarter the way across the page blocking out lots of data BUT George was there and legibile  :D

George son of Robert Mavin of Glanton July 22 (1792)

Even the mice can't digest my lot :-)

Many thanks Christine, shame the BT doesn't seem to have survived but at least I know he's in the PR.
Will stick him on my list of copies to get when the budget permits.
