1964 newspaper:
Santa's Derby present for happy thousands
The romance of the Derby was never better demonstrated than at Epsom yesterday when 76-year-old John Ismay, owner of TO brood mares and three studs, won his first Derby in 50 years of effort with a colt he bought for 1,200 guineas from a horse-loving doctor with only three mares. Truly was the winner called Santa Claus....

Newspapers frequently get people's ages wrong.

Added:
Still watching horse races in 1967

Added:
Dies by February 1973:
'Young Dedham one of nine horses Vernon training for the executors of his chief patron. John Ismay. who won the 1964 Derby with Santa Claus. '

Still alive in 1972, 4th March:
'This was a second winner of the meeting for veteran owner Mr. John Ismay,'

Looks like him Chempat.  The transcription is not consistent with the image, not been read correctly particularly with regard to the occupation.

If that is him there are two possible births:-

I just looked at the thread that Chempat gave a link to and see that it mentions John being a solicitor.  That being the case I found him on the 1911 with parents Thomas and Annie and two younger sisters.

Birthplace Newcastle on Tyne.

Always forget how much of 1911 or 1939 we can quote.

It looks highly likely that he died in Monaco from that will find, and unmarried, unless late in life.

I had been hoping for an obituary in the newspapers, but just lots of horses (and no wife)

The Ismay and son company was in existence before he was born.

This death might refer to the Will:

John Ismay   SepQ 1972  Gosport  6b   837      birth shown as  10 Feb 1885.

Probate details (1973) just gives him as "of" Monaco with his death as 2 August 1972.
