What does "R,I,F" mean on a burial record?
« on: Saturday 21 September 19 05:48 BST (UK) »
The burial record for Peter Ramsay says:

12 April 1833 Edinburgh Peter Ramsay 38 years shoemaker buried from R,I,F, age 23 place of interment 3 1/2 DP South of Kearns Tomb.

Other entries on the page have places e.g. from the Infirmary, from Cumberland St.

Does anyone know what R,I,F means?
England:

Possibly Royal Infirmary Edinburgh RIE rather than RIF

Guy, thanks for the suggestion. I've attached a scan - sorry I should have done that for my original post. It does look like R,I,F

I'm with Monica - I don't think its "Buried" and I would agree that it looks more like RIF than RIE for Royal Infirmary Edinburgh --- Buried doesn't seem to fit in with the other entries either although it identifies where they are from .

Added - does the same word appear anywhere else on the page ?

Neither do I  ;D
And I'm confused by -
12 April 1833 Edinburgh Peter Ramsay 38 years shoemaker buried from R,I,F, age 23 place of interment 3 1/2 DP South of Kearns Tomb.

How can Peter be 38 years and age 23?

Looby :)

Looby, et al

I've just checked the record and the 23 refers to the record and date of burial.

I don't think it look like buried either.

I suppose it could be Burried - but even if it is it leaves us with the RIF abbreviation
