Would someone please look up William Taylor, Blacksmith of Preston on the Hill in the 1841 census please also any neighbours on either side, I am attempting to locate the village smithy, the village may come under the nearby town of Runcorn.
Thank you Algy.

Unfortunately addresses are not given in the 1841 Census, just the name of the place. In this case Preston. He's got a Minister living one side of him and a Porter on the other side. I'd think it is a fair guess that as he was the Blacksmith he lived at or next to the Smithy. Have you tried looking at old maps of the area?

Also - he was 'not born in County'. Age rounded down is 40.

Present also is Ann 45 and Mary 15.

The District is Altrincham and Runcorn, the township is Preston on the Hill and as Emeltom says the address is just 'Peston'.

There are other people named Taylor on the same page. (It is a common name though).

There is a smithy shown on this map, not quite in Preston on the Hill, but near to a canal interchange
With a school shown nearby

Well found Mike -- I hadn't read the post correctly -- and didn't realise algy was looking for the LOCATION - as opposed too the family. I'll put myself in the corner!

If it's the correct Smithy it's near to a Gasometer at the time of that map.
