Marion Thomas (b 1929),Gwyneth Thomas (b 1932),Julie Thomas ,sisters.
« on: Saturday 21 September 19 20:48 BST (UK) »
The 1939 Register for Port Talbot firstly shows Evans Mary Lizzie,b 1888,widow.Others are shown with a further 5 closed entries. For some reason on pages 60 & 61 of the Register, two of the closed records being "opened" and show--
89.8 Thomas Marion,b 2 Sept 1929
89.9 Thomas Gwynneth,b 14 June 1932.
From family memories I believe there was also a sister-Thomas Julie, probably one of the still closed records.
Another closed record I believe is an Ann Evans. From her death record (1967) she was born in 1922.She married Thomas Hastie Cook in June 1939 Westminster and they lived in Islington. She was also known as Nancy. The 1939 (Sept) Register shows Thomas Hastie Cook in Westminster, married, but I cannot find Ann (Nancy) Cook anywhere in the Register.
Marion Thomas married Hector James Gordon Sharp in 1948,the marriage was dissolved and in 1972 she married the same Thomas Hastie Cook, again living in Islington.
Gwynneth Thomas married a Topper and she died in 2002.
From Marion Cooks 2nd marriage certificate her father was Trevor Thurston Thomas, the 1911 census showing him age 8 and living in Burryport, born therefore in 1903.He died in Pontypridd District in 1980 his birth date shown as 3 Feb 1903.I cannot find him in the 1939 Register ???
From family memories their mother married twice, and one sister married her uncle (?).I cannot seem to find, what I feel must be the connection between the Thomas's and the Evans shown in the Register.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Marriages Jun 1944   (>99%)

THOMAS    Thurston T    Wilson    Liverpool S.    8b   246
WILSON    Sarah    Thomas    Liverpool S.    8b   246

This was a Bigamous marriage and he was sentenced to 12 mths imprisonment.
Newspaper says his name was Thurston Trevor THOMAS

His lawful wife, unfortunately not named, said she wanted nothing more to do with him
Added. Newspaper.   06 February 1945 - Liverpool Echo - Liverpool, Lancashire, England

Might this be his first marriage?

Marriages Dec 1926   (>99%)

Thomas    Trevor T    Evans    Bridgend    11a   1218
Evans    Annie M    Thomas    Bridgend    11a   1218

So, I wonder if Ann EVANS b 1922 was illegitimate daughter of Annie. (Modified to add; doubtful. I think dates would be extreme)
OR Annie has been previously married to Mr Evans. .  No, I see MMN for Marion was probably  Evans.

Have you identified Mary Lizzie EVANS?

Added, possibly née HUGHES?

Which might mean this birth is Ann

Births Sep 1922   (>99%)
Evans    Ann    Hughes    Neath    11a   1762

Trouble is, with all these welsh names it’s easy to find several combinations that fit.

Edward’s WW1 record is on Ancestry. (He was discharged as unlikely to be an efficient soldier)

Age 28 yrs 3 mths on 23 June 1915

4 children
Including an
Annie Margaret b 1910.  Which is a bit annoying.

Are you sure that is the correct Trevor THOMAS?
the older child has a MMN name of JONES

where as the GRO entry for Thurstan Trevor is
THOMAS Thurstan Trevor    1903  M qtr BRIDGEND  vol 11A p 920  MMN  GODDING

other THOMAS GODDING children are

THOMAS Martin Luther 1892 S Qtr BRIDGEND vol 11A page 721 MMN GODDING
THOMAS William George 1893 D Qtr, BRIDGEND vol 11A page 724
THOMAS Arthur John 1895 D qtr BRIDGEND vol 11A page 741 MMN GODDING
THOMAS Irene May 1898 D qtr BRIDGEND vol 11A page 758 MMN GODDING
THOMAS Sidney Saphin 1901 S qtr BRIDGEND vol 11A page 870 MMN GODDING
THOMAS Thurstan Trevor    1903  M qtr BRIDGEND  vol 11A p 920  MMN  GODDING
THOMAS David Henry 1905   S qtr BRIDGEND vol 11A page 904 MMN GODDING
THOMAS Doris Haulwen  1909 M qtr BRIDGEND  Vol 11a page 956  MMN GODDING

so possible marriage, 2 on same page

GODDING Matilda  & William THOMAS  1891 D Qtr Bridgend 11A 1189

that family is here in 1911

on the other hand, She could be the Annie M who married Trevor T THOMAS Bridgend 1926. She would have been young, but not impossible.
In which case that makes Mary Lizzie EVANS the grandmother of the THOMAS girls.

one sister married her uncle (?).I

If the 1922 Ann who married Thomas Hastie COOK is the aunt of The Thomas girls, then that would mean Marion married her uncle by marriage.

Just somehow have to reconcile Annie M b 1910 (possibly registered as a Margaret A). With the Ann b 1922 both Evans with MMN Hughes

There are a number of Evans/Hughes couples in Neath registration district unfortunately.

Very many thanks Mckha489 for all the interesting records you have found.
Unfortunately there has been a sudden family illness, but look forward to going through all the information before too long I hope.
As you say perhaps some Welsh names are more frequent than you think.
I thought I had found the  right 1939 Register entry --Llwchwr UD.Thomas Trevor I T,Lizzie M Thomas and Gwynneth E M Thomas, only to find the birth dates don't tie up.
Many thanks again.
