There are 2 catholic churches near the streets where he lived, Gate of Heaven and St Brigid's
the parish address and office for both is 841 East Broadway, South Boston, MA 02127.

Joseph would have received last rites and they may have notes on where he was buried if it's not on the death certificate. Possible photograph of headstone.

I have had good luck with churches in Ohio.

Here's what I'm seeing.

In my earlier post with the passenger ship record of Joseph arriving in 1923 and going to his brother's Patrick's address in Boston at 261 East 8th St. That address is the home of John Flaherty and his family.

1910 census: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M2KB-MP6

John Flaherty's wife Bridget died in 1918. She was buried at Calvary (New) Cemetery.

Death: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:23RJ-7HV

1920 census: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MFMG-MW4

1930 census: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XQR9-9LT

The daughter Anne died in 1935. The funeral was held at the home of her brother Bart- 261 East 8th St.

Death notice: https://www.newspapers.com/clip/36898168/the_boston_globe/

======

John Flaherty died in 1924. If this was  the family the Audley brothers knew and stayed with, then if one of them died, it would be reasonable to assume they would probably be buried at the same Catholic cemetery as them.

According to cemetery records John & Bridget are buried together at Calvary(New) Cemetery. Also, listed at the cemetery is a Joseph Audley who died in 1930. From the date on interment he must have died in the earlier part of September.

Name   Date of Interment   Cemetery   Section   Lot, Range, Grave

Flaherty, Bridget   1918-01-23   New Calvary   SECTION 11   NA, NA, 335

Flaherty, John   1924-06-13   New Calvary   SECTION 11   NA, NA, 335

Audley, Joseph   1930-09-09   New Calvary   SECTION 8   NA, O, 33

===============

For future reference here is a link to the online burial records of the Catholic Cemeteries in Boston.

A side note: None of these individuals are listed on Find A Grave for New Calvary  Cemetery.

Hi All,
Many thanks for all your replies; the key information is the fact that  Joseph Audley (or Adley) does not appear in any of the Boston City Directories.
The reason is as follows:
Within the family there is a photograph, which the older members believe is a photograph of this Joseph Audley (or Adley) and they say that he is wearing a US Navy uniform. Not sure I agree.
What we now know as fact is that Joseph Audley (or Adley) arrived in the USA in November 1923. He died in 1930  in Boston. In the 1930 census; the 1930 Boston City Directory and his death certificate he is described as an elevator operator.

So where was he between November 1923 and the end of 1929. You have now told me he is not in the Boston City Directories for 1924 to 1929 inclusive so where was he? Could he have been in the U S Navy

Regards
Brian Audley

The naturalization record in your first post in this thread has him in Boston in 1926.

The naturalization record in your first post in this thread has him in Boston in 1926.
and he says he is a laborer. That covered a lot, but I think he would have said sailor if he was one.

Do you want to post the picture of the man who might be him in a US Navy uniform?

Hi Shellyesq and Oldohiohome,

Thanks for your good shout about his naturalisation records. I would also assume that to be in the US Navy you would need to be naturalised.

I will see what I can do about the photograph although t may take me some time!!

Brian
