Tracing my 2x Great Grandparents
« on: Monday 23 September 19 22:00 BST (UK) »
Hi, could someone please help me, I am trying to trace the parentage of my nan's grandparents, making the couple my 2x great grandparents. Here is what I know:

My nan's mother was called Lily Westwood born in January 1915 and her father was Joseph Henry Plain born in Broadway, Evesham on 16th October 1913, however I cannot trace his parents.

I know that the couple were called Edward Plain and Emma Ashby because I have a copy of Joseph Henry's birth certificate but my problem is that I can't pin down which Emma Ashby I am looking for as there are multiple options.

If you can help me that would be great, thank you :) xx

Do you have a copy of the Edward Plain/Emma Ashby marriage cert which will show her fathers name?  I can't see anything on freebmd

When did Emma die?  If she died 1969 or later her full birthdate will be shown

Does Joseph's birth cert show Emma Plain nee Ashby or just Emma Ashby

Hi Sarah, if your Nan is still living you will need to remove her name as it is against RootsChat policy to name living relatives to protect her privacy.

A John Plain mmn Ashby was born June qtr 1911

If Emma was previously married she would have married Edward under her married surname but births of children born to the marriage will show her true maiden name

You will find the family on the 1911 census - we are not allowed to post 1911 details

You can't buy a marriage cert as I suspect they never married.  Here's the 1911 from Family Search
