Hi again, Trish.
Wilfred (Willi in some documents) was one of seven children of John and Sarah: Ethel (1883), Walter (1885), Charles (1887), William/Willi (1889), Eddie (1893), Millie (1895), and Hilda (1898. John was a shoemaker according to successive census entries, and the children appear to have followed him into the trade (William is named as an eyeletter in the 1901 census). The confusion I have had with the family has been to differentiate between Walter and William. Sometimes the transcriptions are wrong or ambiguous; sometimes people leave out information (I have found Ancestry to be helpful, but a few people don't check their sources).
According to the 1911 census, Wilfred worked as an agricultural labourer. I have tracked down a little of the family's movements after that. They left England from London on July 31st 1912 aboard the "Norseman", which travelled to Melbourne via Brisbane, arriving some time in November. Walter is shown on the passenger list as being four years old. Wilfred and Emma had two more children in Australia. Wilfred appears to have been a lorry driver for much of his life here (I'm an Australian - sorry we won the Ashes with three cheats in the team).
Thanks again,
Peter
