Surrey History Centre lookup request - burial of Isaiah Golding
« on: Tuesday 24 September 19 18:51 BST (UK) »
I'd be very grateful if anyone visiting the centre could check the Brookwood Cemetery burial records for me please. I've searched many East London cemetery records with no success.

My ancestor's death certificate gives the following details:
Isaiah Golding died 10th Aug 1902 at 23 Morris Road, Bromley (by Bow) at the age of 62.

I'm hoping that if he's there, then many other family members will be too in which case I'll make a visit myself.

If someone could do this it would be very much appreciated.

Chris

The cemetery has a lookup service according to its website.  Isaiah was living at 23 Morris Rd in 1901 which was in the ecclesiastical parish of St Gabriel.

Yes but it is very costly. Surrey History Centre holds copies of the burial registers which I believe are free to search.

As you have the date of death have you tried contacting S.H.C to see if they can do a look up or suggest someone that can.  To my knowledge there is no one on here that regularly does look ups there.

Is Bromley by Bow in Surrey?  I thought it was part of the London borough of Tower Hamlets nd Poplar.

Many Londoners were buried in Brookwood (Surrey) as the London cemeteries were overcrowded.  There was a special train that ran from Waterloo to the cemetery at Brookwood (London Necropolis Railway)

Many Brookwood registers are indexed on FamilySearch. But not for around 1902.
However, if his wife Elizabeth is the lady who died in Poplar in 1892 then she is not showing as being buried at Brookwood.

I've searched many East London cemetery records with no success.

Unless it has been eliminated(?), the most likely place would be the East London Cemetery in Plaistow (registers not online). Not far from where Isaiah was living in 1901.

Thank you for your help. I contacted SHC and they do have a paid research service but with their fees it'd be more worth my while visiting in person. However, now knowing that his wife wasn't buried there, it seems unlikely that he would've been either.

I phoned East London Cemetery, Plaistow a few years back and they couldn't find him there but advised he would've been buried at Bow Cemetery. I searched there with no success either.
