Fairley - Dixie Dee
« on: Wednesday 25 September 19 17:46 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I'm new to roots and very much hoping to fill in some blanks with my research. I was really hoping to make contact with Dixie Dee (I can't work out how to pm) as I think we share relatives.

I'm tracing back my great grandmothers line - she is Susanna Black (married to William Black), daughter of Samuel Fairley and Ellen McCune, her paternal grandparents are William Fairley and Mary Jane ????. I know that William was previously married to Susanna Quinn but I don't know when he remarried - I can find no records on Mary except on the 1911 census - I may have stumbled upon a burial record but I'm not 100% certain it is the same Mary Jane (buried in Dundonald Cemetery and sharing a grave with a William (assume son as her husband appears to be buried with his first wife), daughter Mary Jane and Isabella. The record also states she died in Accrington and I wonder if she moved at some point if it is indeed the same Mary Jane.

If anyone can help me out I'd be extremely grateful.

Many thanks,
Steph

Welcome to rootschat, Steph.

You need to post 2 or 3 times before you can access the pm system....

If you want our help, then some more dates and places would help - how and when did the family get from Dundonald (Ayr?) to Accrington (Lancs?)

Once you have done 3 postings -- just click the user name of the person you want to contact -- you will need to find them, but I assume you have if you know the username.

When you click their name you will be given the option to send them a personal message.
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

I’ve taken a better look and I think I got the wrong Mary Jane (similar age, similar names within the family and same local).

So I’m looking for a Mary Jane who features in the 1911 Census as wife of William Fairley (b. 1855) a brickmaker of Northbrook St, Belfast. Her place of birth is down as Comber. She is 45 in the census and it states they had been married 12 years. Previous to Mary Jane, William was married to Susanna Quinn in 1883 who died in 1898 they had a daughter, Susanna who died aged 24 in 1920.

I’m really keen to find out about Mary - I’ve purchased a few records now and they haven’t proved successful so I’m seeking a bit of help and guidance.

Many thanks 🙂

Is the 1911 census Irish?

Added: Yes.

Letitia was born in 1900/1901 - have you got any baptism or any records?

For reference- William Fairley's wife recorded as Mary-
http://census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Antrim/Windsor/Northbrook_Street/154223/

1911 census says William & Mary married 12 years with 1 living child. Daughter Letitia Agnes Quinn is 10 in 1911 and was born 1900- mother Mary McClune-

Marriage of William Fairley & Mary McClune-

Nowhere so far is she called Mary Jane.

Yes (see previous post with link to 1911 census) and Dundonald is County Down (not Ayrshire).
