OPC Records for Plymouth - POPHAM
« on: Wednesday 25 September 19 19:46 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am stuck with my family tree and can't find William Henry Popham's birth record/parents.

I know from 1841 census that he was born in Plymouth but can't find any proof of this.

I have his birth year as 1826 and a death certificate in Stoke Damerel, Devon in 1881.

Does anybody know where I can look (done Ancestry, My Heritage, Genealogy, Find my past & Family Search as well as looking for parish records online).

Is there anybody I can request a look up from?

Thanks
Hazel Popham

Hello Hazel and welcome to Rootschat.

You say your William Henry Popham was born in Plymouth and you know that from the 1841?
That census doesn't give birthplace - it only says born in county/not born in county with a Y/N in that column.

Do you have him in another census to get the Plymouth precise location?

Is he the William Henry Popham who married in 1844 in Plymouth? to (I think) Mary Ann Gardner?

If so, do you have this certificate for his father's name and other possible family clues from the witnesses?

Yes, this is the one, but I am unable to find either a birth or marriage certificate.

Hi Osprey

Thanks for your reply. I had both Mary Ann Gardner & Betsy Holyoake as possible spouses. The 1871 census lists Mary A Popham as his wife so I went with that.

How did you come by the info in your post please?

Thanks

There are various William Henry Pophams to be found (some with interesting middle names)

To be sure we have the right one, what information do you actually have about yours?
