Methodist chapel marriage banns
« on: Friday 27 September 19 11:44 BST (UK) »
Hi I am trying to locate marriage banns from 1951/52 from Moorends Methodist chapel which is now closed. I know the records are probably at the Archives in Balby but they are closed due to a dangerous roof. I have emailed them at the council but not had a reply. I wondered if the records are held anywhere else. The marriage didn't take place as the groom did a runner.

Do they have banns at Methodist chapels?
Researching among others:
Bartle, Bilton, Campbell, Craven, Emmott, Harcourt, Hirst, Kellet(t), Kennedy,
Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson

They don't have Banns in the Methodist Church, only in the Church of England.

If the groom did a runner during the service there is a good chance that the marriage entry had been partly completed.

There isn't a legal requirement for Banns to be read in a Methodist church. I went to chapel and the Sunday morning service for several years during childhood and never heard Banns read that would be from late 1950s to 1967.

This from a current FAQ for Methodist wedding

Do I need my Banns read to get married at PMC? No the Methodist church are not required to read banns like the Anglican Church.

Hi moiramount

In any event aren't these records considered too 'modern' to view?  Isn't it something like 75 years for marriages?

How will you be able to tell if Bill is Irish??
