Crumbie needle in a haystack
« on: Friday 27 September 19 23:23 BST (UK) »
I am looking for information on William Crumbie born abt 1835. His parents were James Crumbie and Charlotte Forsyth. He Married Jane McChesney in Girvan, Scotland in 1855. They had at least 7 children from 1859 - 1874. I have been unable to find any records for them from 1874 when their daughter Mary was born, I think they may have returned to Ireland. The eldest son Thomas seems to have remained in Scotland and died in Holytown Lanarkshire in 1931. Any help would be appreciated, sorry for the vagueness as I have very little to work on.

Little or no results for Crumbie on Irish Genealogy or the Censuses but Crombie (born Scotland on the census) is much better.
As said already need names of the children.

The Irish Census is online, free... I did a search for Crum*  and Crom*  born Scotland

Link  http://www.rootschat.com/links/01ofd/

then a Search for

Mary age 26 (+/- 5 yrs) born Scotland  http://www.rootschat.com/links/01ofe/ for example this gets one all regardless of Surname, as you can see.

Welcome to Rootschat  :)

Have you checked for a death for William and perhaps a remarriage for Jane?

Thomas’ marriage certificate might indicate if his father is deceased.

Do you have any reason to believe that they returned to Ireland?

Yes I have checked for a death for both onScotlands People as well as the rest of the children and found nothing. A fellow genealogist thinks William was still around in 1888 when his son Thomas joined the army, and Thomas may have had a child born in Ireland about the same time.
