Esther Widow Bately
« on: Sunday 29 September 19 12:15 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone,
I was wondering if you could help me.

In my family tree, I have an Edmund Devereux (1718-1773) who married a woman named Esther Widow Bately in 1748 in Norfolk.

However, I know nothing else about her, such as parents, etc, or why Widow is in her name?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!😊

I would imagine that her name did not include Widow but was just indicating she was previously married.  One transcript has her as Esther Bately marrying on 27 Jul 1748 at Chedgrave

ADDED Freereg shows Widow as her 'condition'

He was a bachelor of the parish of Hockingham, she was of the parish of Halvergate

That burial states he was an infant (Freereg) - probably the son of Edmund Devereux & Jane Harvey who was baptised 25 Jul 1773. Edmund & Jane married 3 Sep 1772 (freereg)
