changing name at baptism - Eyeington to Welburn
« on: Tuesday 01 October 19 05:46 BST (UK) »
Hoping someone can assist with who to find a baptism record.  Henry Welburn was born around 1845 in Malton Yorkshire and a family member has informed me that his mother was Lois Welburn and father (she thinks) was Eyeington and that his surname was changed a the baptism.

Any ideas on how to trace this?

thanks
Deborah

Welcome to RootsChat :)

Was there a typo with Henry's birth year?   I found this baptism

Henry Eyeington
Baptism date   31 May 1836 at Westow
Parents    John  and Lois
John's occupation is given as a labourer

There is a family tree online that lists his parents marrying 6 July 1835 at Sculcoates,Yorkshire.  Could Henry have been born pre the wedding??  His birth year is listed as mainly 1834 in the censuses and after 1851 Henry uses the surname Welburn

The image for the 1835 marriage at All Saints, Sculcoates, is available on FindMyPast.  John signed and Lois made her mark.

Added:  so is the image for the baptism at Westow - John and Lois said to be of Westow, John is a Labourer.  Plus:

Mary - 23 May 1837
George - 23 June 1843
Elizabeth - 27 June 1847
Joseph - 14 July 1850p
