Look-up request Riches alias Poynter - East Anglian Pedigrees
« on: Friday 04 October 19 08:46 BST (UK) »
Can I ask someone who has access to East Anglian Pedigrees Vol 13 to look up the Riches alias Poynter pedigree (or Poynter alias Riches) and send it to me. I think it is page 186 or thereabouts. I hope I'm not infringing anyone's copyright rules by asking, but I can't get a copy of this book in my library system, and to be honest I don't want to buy a second hand copy to get two pages of pedigree. I'm stuck at John Riches born about 1735 in or about Ashby, maybe. He married at Arminghall in 1760 to Mary Middleton, had childers in Yelverton/Poringland, died Poringland 1808, buried Bergh Apton. Left a will (Norfolk Sources). I'm hoping the published pedigree, which I know crosses Yelverton, Ashby & Norwich, may give me a clue. I know I shouldn't be going backwards, or is it forwards, for genealogy, but I've been stuck for quite a while. Any assistance is most appreciated. Thanks Wayne

Hi Yokel,
Thanks very much for that offer. I've tried to send a PM but it tells me that your inbox is full. You are obviously keeping busy. I'll try to send it again later.   ;D ;D

A very big thank you to The Yokel. He sent me a printed pedigree which covers this family from 1550 to 1730. The last person mentioned on the pedigree, John Riches bapt. Carlton 1733 is my suspected ancestor. I have what I think is his marriage to Mary Middleton at Arminghall in 1760 and them having seven children in Great Poringland from 1762-1776, his death in Great Poringland in 1808 (buried Bergh Apton - 73 yrs old) and his will of 1808 (Norfolk Sources), plus the wills of two of his sons (Henry 1847) and William (1849), and two removal certificates for his sons William (from Alburgh 1820) and Samuel from a Suffolk parish in 1796. I can't yet prove categorically that the John Riches of Carlton is definitely mine, but I think very likely. Hopefully rechecking the old published pedigree might help. Again, thanks Yokel  :)

Hi everyone !
I have traced ancestors back as far as John Riches who married Alice Underwood in Yelverton on 5 August 1576 and was buried there on 7 January 1621.
I have not succeeded in getting back any further, although I have just seen that the Norfolk Records Office have the will of a John Riches of Yelverton dated 1596 - could have been the above John's father I suppose.
Can anyone shed any light on the earlier Riches of Yelverton ?
Thank you
Martin
