DIXON John & GILBERT Emma
« on: Tuesday 08 October 19 05:58 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for advice on where to go next.  John DIXON and Emily GILBERT's children were all registered in Liverpool, NSW. (James 1845; Thomas 1847; Frances 1854; George 1857; Emily Agnes 1859). Baptisms seem to have been at St Luke's Liverpool. Two other children deceased at the time of Emily's death in 1862.
Emily's death certificate records her as being born in Liverpool in 1828 and also the marriage in 1845 in Liverpool.  The Death place is Enfield (the family seems to have moved to the Enfield/Ashfield area).
John's name is recorded as 'Dickson' in relation to the marriage though as witness to the burial, he is recorded as 'Dixon'.  Emily's Death certificate does not record her parents. An unsourced Tree indicates that Emily may have been indigenous.
I have no information on John (name is common and many came as convicts; assisted and unassisted immigrants). The only unsourced information is that he may have been Irish.
John was deceased by 1875 when his daughter married. Have checked NSW BMD, various cemetery records, shipping records, convict indents etc for clues. Nothing stands out.
I'm looking to at least find out when and where John may have arrived in NSW.  Would really appreciate any suggestions of where to look. Thanks in advance.

Civil registration commenced in NSW in 1856.  Birth certs include responses to questions about baby's parents including parents'  ages, origins, occupation, usual address ... handy info for births registered 1856 to Emily's 1862 death ... .   Official transcriprions available and are excellent alternative to real deal certs...

Add  ...consider the youngest child's b.c. transcription ... as it may also have info on all her older siblings too

I think this incorrect: Emily GILBERT's

I can see births to John and Emma, but not the marriage.

There should be some info re when/where the parents  married on the 1859 NSW birth...  :)

I have not looked for the marriage yet on any online indexes...

Thanks Team,
 Jamjar - totally correct:
"I think this incorrect: Emily GILBERT's"
Confused my Emma with Emily ;D

Trying to avoid buying a transcript but suspect that it will be worth the investment. (Long story short, am working on the family belonging to my sister in law, so have already invested in several transcripts.)  You're right, if I get the 1859 birth transcript, should help.
Re the marriage, no actual marriage record I've been able to find, but the information was on the Death Certificate. So am comfortable with that.  A nice person uploaded it on a public site.
Cheers, appreciate your input.

My 4th Great grandmother was Emma Gilbert, her daughter Emily Agnes Gilbert my 3rd Great grandmother, her daughter Florence Smith was my 2nd Great grandmother, her son James Smith was my Great grandfather, and his Daughter Emily Smith was my Nan.

Emma Gilbert was Indigenous, Daughter of Namut & Judith Gilbert. So her blood carried on through my paternal line

Hello Kaylene912
Thanks for your response, I haven't been online for a while.
I completed 4-5 generations of my sister in law's tree for her 60th birthday.
I really appreciate you getting in touch. Would you mind leaving it with me for the moment? I have a bit on but would love to follow up with you.
Cheers
