Glen Huntly House
« on: Wednesday 09 October 19 17:04 BST (UK) »
Need help!

Does anyone have information regarding Glen Huntly House in the 1930s? According to my grandmother's birth certificate her mother Catherine Grant lived there, but she doesnt come up on the valuation rolls on Scotlands people. She was a domestic servant so possibly had accommodation as part of her job.

If anyone recognises the name, or has general information regarding the house it would be much appreciated.

In which registration district was your grandmother's birth registered?
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Only the name of an owner (Proprietor) or a tenant would show on the valuation rolls. The only match that comes up in that period is in Hyndford Road, Lanark with Proprietor Thomas Mackinlay.

Weatherall, Greer (Ireland & Scotland)
Hamilton, Johnston, Dawson, Rennie, Wright (Clackmannanshire)

There also appears to have been a Glenhuntly house in Port Glasgow which will be the one you are interested in.

There are some newspaper reports in 1898 that mention the house and grounds being sold. They say that the new owner plans to build housing in the grounds so there may have been a number of properties there by the 1930’s.

So Glen Huntly House was where her mother Catherine lived, but not where the baby was born?

I've gone in to view the rolls, got tenants listed but she isnt on there. Is it possible servants arent included?

So Glen Huntly House was where her mother Catherine lived, but not where the baby was born?

My grandmother was born in Glasgow maternity hospital (Rotten Row). With a short period in St gerards home for unmarried mothers both before birth, and her baptism.
