How do I search by address only
«

hello
I wonder if you could give me tips on how to search by address only. I want to know who lived at
41 Central Road Gloucester around 1921
72 Park Road St Marylebone around 1920
and other addresses
I pay for ancestry but never manage to find anything about just an address. Tips and hints would be really appreciated.
many thanks
Gail

Have you checked on the Ancestry site to see if it holds the relevant ER's for those places and years?

It does:
Ernest Holmes Griffin 1921 41 Central Road Gloucester
I looked in censuses and er's. specified the year 1921, the place Gloucester, and had to have central.
Added:
In the actual image it specifies that I have got this address for people who no longer qualify as Electors.

Excuse my ignorance - what is an ER and how would I view it?

ER is an Electoral Register - what other lists did you think an address would be found?

On Ancestry you can search for All Categories, or you can narrow down that search to e.g. Births, marriages and deaths, Military, Census and Voter Lists, Family Trees, etc etc. So you want Census and Voter Lists.

Sorry I realise these are basic questions but I really struggle with this. so I go to the ER collections but when I type in the address it takes the road out and gives me over a million hits for Gloucester!

In the card catalogue find
Gloucestershire, England, Electoral Registers, 1832-1974
Put Gloucester, Gloucestershire England in the “
lived in”
box
And put Central in the
Keyword
box
And 1921 in the
residence year
box

It looks as though Marylebone is more tricky
London, England, Electoral Registers, 1832-1965
Go to the catalogue
Find
Put Marylebone in “lived in” line
And the year in the year box
Then you will have to go to the front (page 9). Of the roll to see the street index
Then page through to the three pages Park Road is on.
