She is married to Richard Powning in 1851 he is visiting in Kent

1841 they are living in Marown Isle of man

In 1861 Richard dies in Italy

Jane is then showing with her surving daughter Elizabeth Jane born 1844 Foxdale mines isle of Man

Elizabeth is living with husband Francis Francis in 1871 and 1881 with her mother Jane  in Cheshire

Elizabeth is showing as Jesse and Lisa in both these census returns

Not seeing Jane in 1851 or 1861?

But there is a baptism!

19th September 1844 at Kirk Marown, Mary Emma daughter of Richard Powning and Jane Grose.
19th September 1844 also at Kirk Marown, Elizabeth Jane (age 18 months) daughter of Richard Powning and Jane Grose.

(Manx baptisms almost always name the mother by her maiden name ;D)

Isn't it likely that the family was in Genoa with Richard in 1861? ADDED - No! I see he died in late January of that year.

In 1841, they were living at "Cottage at Foxdale Mines".
Almost certain there fore that Richard was a Cornish miner.
Lots of Cornish came to the Isle of Man to work the mines ;D
Which is why Laxey Harbour looks remarkably Cornish!
